Portland drafted for need while Michael Jordan waited

The Trail Blazers already had Clyde Drexler and wanted a center, so they chose Sam Bowie second. Jordan went third; hindsight should not erase Bowie’s injuries or the logic of the era.

2000 · League draft record

Tom Brady waited until pick 199

Six quarterbacks went before Brady in the 2000 NFL draft. New England eventually took him in the sixth round, after making six earlier selections of its own.
