An unusual wartime proposal
U.S. Patent No. 2,292,387 names Hedy Kiesler Markey, better known as Hedy Lamarr, and George Antheil as inventors of a secret communication system. Their coordinated frequency changes were intended to make radio-controlled guidance harder to detect or jam, but a patent alone did not supply field testing, procurement, or a production-ready military system.
Recognition after the window
The National Inventors Hall of Fame says Lamarr and Antheil did not profit from the invention during their lifetimes and recognizes it as an important wireless-communications development. That is narrower—and better supported—than claiming every later wireless standard descended directly from their design.
